skill comes from practice

during the northern song dynasty, there was a skilled archer. one day he drew a big crowd while he was practicing on the drill ground. he shot so accurately that the on-lookers cheered with excitement. he became very proud of his skill. but among the crowd an old oil peddler only nodded his head indifferently. this hurt his pride.

can you do this? he asked the old oil peddler. no, i cansquo;t.

what do you think of my skill?

just ok, but nothing special. yousquo;ve gained your accuracy from persistent practice. thatsquo;s all.

what can you do, then? the old man said nothing. he put a gourd bottle on the ground and covered its mouth with a copper coin. he then scooped out a ladle of oil from his big jar, held it high and began to fill the bottle.

now, a thread of oil came down from the ladle into the bottle just through the hole of the coin. everybody looking on watched with amazement. but the old man said, this is nothing special, i can do this because i have practiced it a lot. and with these words, he left.

later, people use this phrase to mean practice makes perfect.

when i was a little girl,i often want to give up study instead play games.then my father will told me "perseverance is the golden key to being successful in anything you do.it's a matter of hanging on long afte others have quit".when i was a teenager i like to make track for a star, and like images like, including dress etc.then my dad always tell me that"be what you are, not what you aren't,because when you are what you aren't,then you aren't what you are".all of the things are inspired me so much.

she kindled a third match。 again shot up the flame; and now she was sitting under a most beautiful christmas tree ,far larger, and far more prettily decked out, than the one she had seen last christmas eve through the glass doors of the rich merchant's house。 hundreds of wax-tapers lighted up the green branches, and tiny painted figures, such as she had seen in the shop-windows, looked down from the tree upon her。 the child stretched out her hands towards them in delight, and in that moment the lights of the match warm quenched; still, however, the christmas candles burned higher and higher, she beheld them beaming like stars in heaven; one of them fell, the lights streaming behind it like a long, fiery tail。

now some one is dying, said the little girl, softly, for she had been told by her old grandmother, the only person who had ever been kind to her, and who was now dead that whenever a star falls an immortal spirit returns to the god who gave it。

she struck yet another match against the wall; it flamed up, and surrounded by its light, appeared before her that same dear grandmother, gentle and loving as always, but bright and happy as she had never looked during her lifetime。

as we know, you have to learn how to fly much more independently instead of under your parents’ considerate protection when you get into college, which also means you will come across enormous questions that should be solved by yourself. from my point of view, those main problems can fall into three parts.

first of all, the complicated relationship. for one thing, you have to know how cultural differences function in your relationship and respect them. in addition, college students spend less time studying together owing to different courses’ choosing, which requires us to devote more energy to building relationship. for the other thing, it is also vital to communicate with your parents often by using mobile phones or other tools.

secondly, the temptations. the college serves us a more relaxed environment mixed with other temptations such as the internet, alcohols and so on. what’s more, the college teachers won’t compel you to study like before, you doze off or play cell phone in class, and you flee up the morning class because you get up too late. such too frequent behaviors will cripple your passion and enthusiasm towards life, so it is essential for us to resist these temptations and insist pursuing our own goals.

thirdly, the balance between study and work. most of us will choose to take a part time job to earn the extra money or just to exercise ourselves. but it is significant to keep a relatively balanced relationship between them since i always regard the study as our main task, so my principle is adjusting work to follow the schedule of study.

in conclusion, whatever issues we meet or miseries we suffer from, confront the hash reality head on, what we can do is remembering the past, living in the present and looking forward to the future.

it's easiest to see this link between fear and the imagination in young children, whose fears are often extraordinarily vivid.

when i was a child, i lived in california, which is, you know, mostly a very nice place to live, but for me as a child, california could also be a little scary.

i remember how frightening it was to see the chandelier that hung above our dining table swing back and forth during every minor earthquake, and i sometimes couldn't sleep at night, terrified that the big one might strike while we were sleeping.

and what we say about kids who have fears like that is that they have a vivid imagination. but at a certain point, most of us learn to leave these kinds of visions behind and grow up.

we learn that there are no monsters hiding under the bed, and not every earthquake brings buildings down. but maybe it's no coincidence that some of our most creative minds fail to leave these kinds of fears behind as adults.

good morning, ladies and gentlemen, today i am so happy to stand here to give you a speech.or rather, a real story of mine.

though with time going by,i can still remember what you once told me.you should be a brave girl.smiling, you looked into my eyes.year in,year out, nearly most of my memories are fading little by little.but only this simple sentence remained, without being forgotten in my life.

again and again,i can not stop myself from thinking about it.so ordinary, but so impressive,so moving, just like the brightest sunshine,it helps me go through the darkest night.i am such a sensitive girl in your heart.you said,my sorroful facial expression made feel so distersssed.however, there is one thing i never tell you, that is ,i am becoming a big girl gradually with your words and smiles.i never tell you about it,for i believe oneday, you can see the great changes of mine for yourself.that is what i want to do in return.as i know, that will be the best gift for you.

i suddenly think of a song named my heart will go on.there is a beautiful sentence going like this.you are safe in my heart.more than once,i was moved to tears by it.i know ,i am also safe in your heart.i have already forgotten when i told you i was going to leave for australia this summer holiday.you just smiled as usual, gently speaking.whatever you decide to do,i will be in favor of it,but, just onething, remember, when you fell lonely abroad,do not forget we are here ,praying for you.we are all around you,far across the distance and space between us.i closed my eyes, the flashback started.the memories we had together, once we played games on the palyground,we played jokes on each other, you always wrote a lot of sentences on my articles to encourage me.and the most unforgetable thing, you told me,you believed m i could be a big girl.sooner or later.

at that specific moment,i suddenly understood the meaning of this sentence totally.so on that day,i smiled as you used to,looking at you.the last words i said were, keep walking in sunshine.

yes, keep walking in sunshine.i said to you ,also to myself.i know i am not alone wiht your company, and we can keep walking in sunshine till the last minute of our days.

i promise,i will be a big girl.

i promise,i will be a brave girl.

i promise,i will keep walking in sunshine.

that is my speech,thank you!

the power of perseverance

dear friends:

if you can dream it, you can do it.——walt disney

it was a long four years. even after i had actually graduated, the nightmares began to haunt me, the university would call to say i hadnsquo;t truly graduated. there had been a mistake and there was just one more class i needed to take. i was always so relieved to wake up and realize that it had only been a bad dream. in reality, i had completed every course needed for my degree, and i was a full-fledged college graduate!

now, the rest of my life loomed ahead of me. sometimes a bachelorsquo;s degree prepares you for a specific occupation——you train to be an accountant, you graduate and get a position in an accounting firm. often, however, your stint in college only prepares you to make further decisions regarding your future. yousquo;re pretty sure what you donsquo;t want to do!

during my senior year of college, i had toyed with the idea of changing my major. at that point, i had finally discovered what captured my heart. but, wanting to finally be finishing school was a stronger pull. so, i took a few courses in physiology and exercise science, but not enough to receive a degree in physical therapy. that would require advanced schooling, beyond my bachelorsquo;s degree——and i just wasnsquo;tready to tackle that. having completed my b.c. degree, i didnsquo;t have any intentions of furthering my education.

so, i did the safe thing and got an office job——the very thing i was sure that i didnsquo;t want to do! i detested the office policies, the suits i had to wear and the downtown environment that i had to drive to every day. i knew this was not where i belonged.

but god knew what path my career was to follow. a position opened up at the most exclusive health club in our city, so i applied. this was my kind of environment——an active, vibrant kind of place——completely at the opposite end of the spectrum from the office environment where i found myself. the position required that i work saturday nights and sunday mornings. perfect, i thought! i could keep my office job monday through friday and work at my dream job on the weekends. this arrangement lasted several months until, eventually, a full-time position opened up and i was able to resign from my office job.

over the next few years, i worked my way up the leader, gaining experience in several different departments. i found my niche as the director of member services——catering to our clientele and providing them with numerous cutting-edge programs. i would have stayed at that job forever——it seemed to be the pinnacle of all my dreams fulfilled. here were fellow employees who had a passion for the same things that i did——health and fitness. yet again, god had other plans for my life.within two years, a newer, bigger, better and more state-of-the-art health club facility was built——just five miles down the road. and, in turn, the owner lost many members to that club. and, in turn, the owner lost thousands of dollars. one by one we were each laid off.

after trying unsuccessfully to land another similar position elsewhere, i knew what i had to do. go back to school!thanks!
